Livability is the UK’s largest Christian disability charity. We offer a wide range of services to support and empower disabled and disadvantaged adults and children, including residential care, supported living, specialist education centres and horticulture. Livability helps over 1,000 disabled people to live fuller, more independent lives each day and supports churches to transform their neighbourhoods.

They say home is where the heart is, and at the heart of our work is to ensure the disabled people who are residents in our care homes feel very much at home. We care passionately that all our residents are given a true sense of belonging and the freedom to live as independently as possible.

Our small, friendly homes offer differing levels of care from 24-hour nursing to a helping hand. Each resident has a personsalised care plan, their own room or flatlet, and is supported to maximise their independence and get out and about in the community.

25-year-old Steven* has lived in a Livability care home in Essex since moving out of his parents’ house in 2005. He shares his experiences of how Livability has supported him.

“Mum and Dad were very supportive when I wanted to move to a Livability care home and they often visit me at weekends. Moving into a Livability home was a big change. My flat has cooking facilities and I often prepare my own meals, whereas before my food was cooked for me. The staff are brilliant and supportive, and we’re encouraged to learn and do things for ourselves.

“It’s very easy to get into the town centre from the care home and I’m pretty much out every day. I go to a local church on Sundays and also take part in their Bible study group, which I really enjoy.

“As a Christian disabled person the most important thing I’ve learned is that God listens to my prayers. Don’t give up, that’s what I say. My favourite Bible quote is ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Matthew 11:28

“Moving to a Livability care home is the best thing I’ve ever done. They encourage everyone to be really active and do the best that they can themselves.”
